According to a Preston based Fostering charity it is estimated that one in 12 young people have self-harmed at some point in their lives, according to Preston Fostering charity YouthNet. Although this article recognises the need for Fostering social workers to undergo more training on dealing with self harming behaviour, some thought should surely be given to understanding the impact on Foster Carers and those in Fostering  who are often the people giving day to day support to young people who self harm?
