Many of the thousands of children who come into care have experienced significant difficulties in their lives and have more problems to overcome than most; they may offer a real challenge, both emotionally and physically to their foster carers.
It is often the most most damaged and challenging young people who struggle to find stable foster placements. Many agencies are spreading the net wider and asking people employed in sectors where they have developed the skills needed to support children and teenagers who display extremely challenging behaviour, to consider foster care as a career.
