Fostering is something many people have considered but for a variety of reasons they never proceed any further. This could be based on misconceptions about what is required to become a foster carer. Many people I have spoken too will state they are ‘too old’ or don’t have the right ‘qualifications’ and so dismissed it as an option. Or simply on not knowing where to begin!

Fostering Connections was set up to dispel these myths and give people accurate information about what is required to apply to become a foster carer. Our website has a great deal of useful information about the skills required, the financial allowances you will receive and what the process of becoming a foster carer actually entails. You can find the answers to this and a number of other questions on our FAQ page.
In addition to providing information to enable people to make an informed decision about whether fostering is the right choice for them we are able to support you in choosing the right fostering agency.

The Government advise that you should talk to several agencies before you make a firm decision about which Agency you apply to. However, with over 700 fostering agencies in the country including private agencies and the local authority, this can be an overwhelming task. All agencies offer slightly different packages in terms of financial support, training and practical support and it can be a difficult decision to make.
We are not a fostering agency but were set up to support people who are considering fostering but who aren’t confident about how to proceed. Once you have all the information you need from our website and feel ready to make a firm application to foster, we can support you in choosing the agency that most closely meets your needs.

How do we do this? Fostering Connections have a database of fostering agencies who support our service and upon receiving your application we can match the information you have given us with selected agencies who are aiming to recruit foster carers in your area.
The agencies will then contact you directly, discuss your application and tell you what they can offer you. After speaking to a few agencies you should have a feel for the one who meets your needs and expectations most closely and they will then invite you to formally apply to become a foster carer with their Agency.

Our service is completely free to prospective foster carers, it is our aim to increase the number of carers in the UK by offering information, advice and support to encourage you to ‘take the step’ and apply to foster a child or young person.
