Care System Reforms

Interesting Article from last weeks Guardian discussing the need to implement wholesale reforms of Children’s Services and not focus too narrowly on Children’s Homes. It calls for a cohesive approach to children’s services where greater collaboration between agencies is a priority.

Leaving Foster Care

Foster Care is always in need of high profile advocates to speak out on behalf on children in foster care. Bruce Oldfield has always been vocal about his own experiences in the care system and now he is advocating for more post care support for all care leavers. Any foster carers or parents reading […]

Calling All Prospective Foster Carers!

This article  published in April’s Guardian highlights the crisis in foster care throughout the country. There is a huge shortfall in the number of approved foster carers available to offer security, safety and stability to the thousands of vulnerable children coming into the Care System.

Foster Care Fortnight is over for another year and hopefully this spotlight on the vital role of foster carers will lead to an increase in people applying to fill the existing 9,000 vacancies  required this year alone to meet the current need for foster placements.

Fostering recruitment gets much needed support from Government

The government has announced a £750,000 package to encourage the recruitment and retention of foster carers. The Fostering Network will be working with Local Authorities and IFA’s to look at ways to cast the net wider when recruiting foster carers, particularly for those children with complex needs and behaviours. It’s great to see the role of […]

Calling all potential foster carers!

This article from Sunday’s Independent really highlights the desperate shortage of  Foster Carers throughout the country and the devastating effect this is having on the hundreds of sibling groups who come into care. It is becoming increasingly difficult for Fostering Agencies to place siblings together and this just adds additional stress and anxiety to vulnerable children […]
