Fostering in Liverpool

Fostering Connections BLOG 1 - Liverpool

With 87,000 British children in care and a new child coming into care every 22 minutes have you got what it takes to offer a stable, loving environment and become a foster carer?

At Fostering Connections we are currently looking for energetic, caring, patient and understanding people in the Liverpool area to open up their heart and their home to enable local children to find local foster placements.

There are many reasons why people foster but the main motivation has to be the chance to make a positive contribution to the life of a child or young person in care. Many of these young people have experienced loss or separation from their birth families and need love and understanding. Children come into care for a whole range of reasons; it may be due to family illness, a parent’s depression or even drug or alcohol misuse. Some children may have even been abused or neglected. Whatever their situation, these young people have had to face much uncertainty and confusion and will need support to manage their emotions and behaviour.

At Fostering Connections we understand the challenges you may face as a foster carer and we endeavour to find you the right Fostering Agency to provide you with the right guidance and support to enable the placement to be successful for both you and the foster child. We know fostering is not an easy decision and there are many factors to consider. Fostering Connections can help you to make the right choice and match your skills and experience with the right agency to suit you and your family. There are hundreds of independent fostering agencies (IFA’s) in the country and knowing where to begin can be overwhelming!

We need carers from all walks of life; regardless of age, marital status, gender, sexuality, disability or employment status. Your personal qualities and what you can offer to a child or young person are what matter most.
And don’t worry if you already have children of your own. Lots of foster carers have their own children. Foster Agencies can see that they’ve done a good job raising their own and want to give other children the same good start in life!

Fostering is a rewarding career. Helping a young person to make sense of their situation and build a pathway towards a successful and purposeful future is a huge reward in itself. But you will also be financially rewarded. Foster carers are provided with a professional fee of £20,000 to £60,000 per year, depending on the number of placements you have. You will also usually receive respite/holiday pay and a separate allowance for birthdays and Christmas. And don’t worry, you will not be on your own; you will receive regular visits from your Social Worker and access to localised support meetings where you can meet other foster carers like yourself.

If you have the passion and commitment to become a foster carer and have room in your heart and your home to help children and young people in and around the Liverpool area please contact us today by completing the ‘Call me Back’ section above, the more detailed ‘Apply to Foster’ or by emailing
